Turning 40: Embracing a New Chapter of Life
Turning 40 isn’t just another birthday; it’s a deeply emotional milestone. For me, it hasn’t been about balloons or cake; it’s been about quiet reflection, unanswered prayers, and the courage to face a new chapter with God by my side.
In this week’s podcast episode, “Turning 40: The Next Chapter,” I open up about the realities of stepping into this new decade, the expectations I once had, the disappointments I’ve wrestled with, and the hope I’m daring to embrace again.
The Weight of Expectations
When I was in my 30s, I poured my heart and soul into my marriage, my family, and our ministry. I prayed, worked, and believed that by 40, I would be living in the overflow—resting in wealth, stability, and the fruits of years of sacrifice.
But instead, I find myself in a different reality. I still need a new home, resources are tight, and there are days I feel too tired to keep pushing. On top of that, the weight of single motherhood sometimes makes me question whether my children will have enough.
This isn’t the life I imagined for 40. But here’s what I’m learning: God doesn’t measure success the way we do. What feels like failure to me might just be the foundation for a greater testimony.
The Beauty of Reflection
This week, I’ve been unusually quiet. I’ve taken time to reflect, journal, and sit with God as I prepare to step into what many call the “fourth floor.”
Reflection is powerful—it forces us to look back, but also to ask: What do I want the next chapter to look like? I realised that even though my journey has been filled with pain, betrayal, and loss, it has also made me resilient, grounded, and more aware of who I am in Christ.
In the podcast, I share some of these reflections and how they’re shaping the way I’m entering this new season.
Embracing Change with Faith
Turning 40 means embracing change. For me, change has been unexpected—widowhood, single motherhood, financial pressure—but I believe it’s also where God does His best work.
Research says many people find clarity and identity in their 40s. For us as believers, this is more than identity—it’s destiny. God uses change to shift us into alignment with His purpose. In the episode, I talk about how I’m learning not to fear change but to see it as the soil where new growth takes root.
A Lesson from Mel Robbins: Designing Your Life
This week, I also listened to a podcast by Mel Robbins with her guest about designing your life. They shared an exercise I found so profound that I’ve decided to try it—and I’d love for you to join me.
The challenge is to write an essay about your life 10 years from now if there were no obstacles. Where would you be? Who would you become? What would life look like if nothing held you back?
On my podcast, I share how I’m approaching this exercise with a Godly perspective—inviting Him into the vision and allowing faith, not fear, to guide the picture of my future.
Together, we can dream again, not as wishful thinkers, but as believers declaring that with God all things are possible.
Setting New Goals and Finding Strength
At 40, goals look different. It’s not about proving myself anymore—it’s about walking in purpose. In the episode, I share how I’m reframing my goals, breaking them into small, daily steps, and aligning them with God’s promises over my life.
This is also where self-care and strength come in. I talk about the importance of protecting your mind, honouring your body, and surrounding yourself with relationships that build rather than drain.
A New Chapter Awaits
Turning 40 is not the end of the story—it’s the start of a new one. It’s not about what I’ve lost, but about what God is yet to restore. It’s about stepping into purpose, even when the path feels uncertain.
If you’ve ever looked at your life and thought, “By now, I should have been further along,” then this episode is for you.
